Established by the Commonwealth Government in July 2000 to offset the impact of the GST, the First Home Owner Grant Scheme (FHOGS) offers eligible first time buyers a one-off $7,000 payment.

To be eligible you (or at least one of you, if applying as a couple) must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident buying or building your first home in Australia. The home must be occupied by you as your principal place of residence within 12 months of completion of construction or settlement and your FHOGS application must be made within 12 months of settlement.
